Hey all, not strictly regarding robotics, I was wondering if any of you know the answer to the following.
I have a laser diode, that I want to send a modulated signal with. The reception end would firstly filter red light out, allowing only red component of white light and Laser Diode. Then the reception end would filter out the modulation frequency, to end up with a signal.
My question is what type of photo sensitive device (LDRs, photo diodes, etc) would be best when I would require moderately high frequency for the modulation frequency (in the mid kHz range) and must be cheap so that I could have a few receivers.

Good question! I know Oatley sell some kits using laser to send signals: eg: oatleyelectronics.com/kits/k073.htmland you can download the instructions for free Unfortunately they have some ones that are discontinued too - could email them for the instructions to the discontinued ones. I don't really know much about lasers but I think IR receivers could be your best bet. LDRs and Photo transistor probably couldn't react fast enough.

Thanks for the link The instructions show that they are using a photo diode for the reception.
