I've been using these really cool devices at work called Xport by Lantronix. www.lantronix.com/device-networking/embedded-device-servers/Basicly it is a web server, cpu with memory, serial interface (running at ,921,600 bps) a couple of I/O pins, modem, oh yeh email all inside a package a little bit bigger than a standard RJ-45 network connector. And the connector is in there too. You write a java web page to control your robot through a port specified say 192.168.4.100:12345. Just send a few bytes to it and it comes out the serial connector to your uP on the device. Handles modem AT commands aswell. Oh did I mension email capibility to. Send some specific bytes to another port and you control the I/O pins. Run the redirector software on your PC, add a transparent comm port someware on your network to use a standard serial device remotely. AND it comes in wireless version too. But theres more. Another version with 120Mhz DSTniā¢ processor, 3 serial ports, 13 I/O ports etc BLA BLA BLA. Access you robot from any pc from the embedded web page. Have video stream back through the java applet. etc I'll let you think of other uses. The best part $55 American for the wired version and $125 for wireless. www.mouser.com/lantronix/ or in AUZZY www.lanconnect.com.au/Products/Lantronix/Xport.htmBones

Sweet.
So far I've been using 433Mhz modules to send and receive CRC'd serial comms.
But they are pretty slow and need quite a bit of the main processor's grunt to run.
These new ones look great, and so small, freaky.

Hi, Yeh still recomend the Xport and Wiport. We have then in our systems at work and they work fine. Java applet is really good too. www.wibotics.com uses them in robots. www.soanarplus.com/secure/ sell them in sydney. $170 But check www.lantronix.com for the reseller in AUS. Might be cheaper. Cheers Rodney
