Hi, Found a really cool range of chips. Capacitive, non contact switches. If you need a slide ring like the Ipod has or a slide bar that can spit out a position between 0 and 128 or a few non contact button have a look at this site. www.qprox.com/Have a look at this chip. It has it all. Slider and button. Farnell has them (Really pricey) Get them from Digikey in the US. 1/4 of the price but freight isn't cheap. www.qprox.com/downloads/datasheets/qt1106_%20r8I.05.pdfWorks upto 5cm thats right 50mm through plastic and 10cm through glass and can be made straight off the circuit board. Bolt the circuit board to the inside of the box and use a pen to draw the buttons on the outside. Done. Data out is SPI, has debounce built in etc. Worth a look. Bones

Quantum also make a cheap touch sensor IC, even just the datasheet is worth looking at to see how they work.
The basic one is the QT110 - Touch Sensor IC
Futurlec sells them too.
