Hi everyone, A good point someone gave me was that if I use my robot inside that when it turns it will leave marks or rip up the carpet due to the tracks. What my idea is and would appreciate input is that either change the base completely to something like Davros from Dr Who or the track base is like the wheel chair motor bike that people in wheel chairs use. The robot base would have to be smaller to get in and out of the tracked (outdoor) base. The top of the body is still humanoid from the waist up. Anybody got any idea's or drawings that might help me out.

What about three wheel design. Two large driven wheels that are thin in width (tight turning radius, mininal drag for making marks) and then a third "castor" type wheel that just exists for support. This way you'd be able to turn on the spot and thin wheels are best for carpet
Other wise you could put rubber on the tracks, shorten the length of the tracks themselves and make sure the software doesn't try to turn too far in one go (have it detect carpet then go back and forth to complete the turn in many more but individually smaller turns) thus saving the carpet but allowing strength in the open field.

The three wheel design is what I wan thinking of but what kind of lower body shape do you reconmend. Still thinking of the darlek Idea for the base. I might have a look at the new Dr Who series that is out in america to see if they have updated the darleks.

I have desided to give the robot legs and use a platform under the feet with wheels like the Segway scooters. This will give the robot balance, mobility and allow me to spend more time on other aspects. This will allow the robot to be able to crouch down to pick things ups as well. Hear are some links for segway scooter design. www.tlb.org/scooter.htmlBones

Will that be using gyros? if so, where are you getting them from? I've never come across them in my travels

I got another site. www.fusionglobal.net/He is making a type of kit by the looks of it. And tells you where to get all the parts. The gyro you can buy but some people are using them out of video camera's. The steady cam gyro. The video's look great. This one should work well. bones
